Goodbye McD

did you hear?

McDonald's has gotten rid of their famed garlic chilli sauce..the best fastfood chilli sauce you can find here, in my opinion. There has been some talk about it at STOMP but it doesn't look like McD will bring it back..the senior communications manager's response is full of shit..here's the link

thumbs up to McD for yet another brilliant move.

McDonald's is now officially dead to me.

McDonalds = EVIL

I watched SuperSize me sometime ago and I have to admit I was alittle traumatized. It may not necessarily reflect the situation in Singapore but its still the same company so..it can’t be that much different…?

Anyway, last week, I had my first mcdonald’s value meal in a long, long time – grilled chicken foldover plus a regular iced green tea.
It was okay but the chicken patties were a lot saltier than I remember..i’m not sure if I ever want to eat at McDonald’s again..
Especially since they’ve done lots of stupid things with their menu..

Here’s 8 reasons why I don’t believe in McDonald’s as a provider of food anymore..

Hot Chocolate..
I don’t know if my childhood taste buds can be trusted – but back then, Mcdonald’s hot chocolate was pretty damn good. But they have sinced axed it from their menu and replaced it with crappy hot milo..

Iced Lemon Tea..
It used to taste like real brewed tea and not some crappy ass syrup with water.
Which incidentally, is what the new lemon tea taste like -
No hint of tea. No hint of lemon. Just crappy ass syrup water.

McSpicy Double..RIP
That was probably THE BEST thing Mcdonald’s ever came up with.
I loved the fact that the chicken fillets were not bread-crumbed or battered!
It was just simple & really tasty..very good stuff.
Alas, good things don’t seem to last very long in McD’s..a few years back, someone made the decision to make McSpicy a SINGLE, not a double..
They even had to mess with the chicken fillet! Instead of using a fillet, they mixed crappy chicken bits in, fat and all, battered it and deep fried it.
It’s so sad to see a good burger butchered & ruined just like that.

Spanish Omelette Bagel..RIP
Not to be confused with the Mcdonald’s breakfast bagel..that was really shitty..i tried it once and did not enjoy it at all. It was a total waste of money and stomach space.
Anyway..the spanish omelette bagel..mmm..
I was fortunate enough to have tried that wonderful breakfast creation that didn’t last very long. Imagine a fluffy omelette, full of capsicum and onions, a piece of sausage, cheese and some mayo (if I didn’t remember wrongly) in between a fresh bagel..
yummmmmm……
That was like THE most savoury thing Mcdonald’s ever did..it’s totally not typical of Mcdonalds but it was a genius combination.
Stupid stupid decision to axe it..
DAMN their malfunctioning brains and taste buds!

McGriddles..
Most unfortunate breakfast food.
McGriddles are like a cross between a pancake and a waffle..with egg and sausage and cheese..
It could have been good.
If they would just toast the bloody Mcgriddle just alittle more so it’ll be more like a waffle – slightly crisp on the outside and still moist on the inside.
That would have made A LOT of difference.
At least people can order takeout without having the Mcgriddle turn to mush..
It’ll so be good if they loaded abit less maple syrup..although the flavours sort of work, the maple syrup can be abit too much sometimes.

McNuggets..
Those are really weird now. I tried 1 last week and the first thing that hit me was the how light the nugget was. It’s practically weightless..didn’t feel like I was holding onto a small piece of meat..it felt more like a replica made of foam.
The meat was really white as well..very minced..very plain.
It’s Weird. Plain weird.
Almost un-natural.

Big Breakfast eggs..
They used to serve pretty good scrambled eggs. I used to eat them really slowly and saved them for last but now I don’t have any more cravings for Mcdonald’s breakfast coz they ruined the eggs.
Gone are the generous, fluffy eggs. Now all you can find is pathetic, over cooked eggs..I don’t even consider them scrambled anymore coz they’re so dry.
Bleurgh..

Hashbrown..
They don’t taste so good these days.
I’ve had instances where it was sour, really oily and there was once it tasted like it was fried in stale/overnight/greasy oil..YUCK. That was pretty unpleasant..

There.
I doubt I’ll ever be back there for food.
Dessert or drink..maybe..but no way am I ever going back there for their Extra Value Meals..ergh.

Maybe you should to.

random recollection #8752

you know what's worse than rap?
..cantonese rap. i'm sorry but i don't understand it and it's plain annoying.

and if that's not bad enough..?
..cantonese rap paired with metal.

if your intolerant ears aren't bleeding by then..
..how about i throw in an unpleasant looking, stained teethed ah beng who sounds like a duck, to do the rapping?

and finally to top it all off into a totally ear bleeding experience..
..the ah beng failed miserably at trying to do a rap-metal song with explicit lyrics at a company dinner/karaoke.

oh yea..the memory still haunts me...

do you know what the faaa i'm sayin..

imagine that on repeat mode..

an update..

just when i thought the maid issue at home was settled when we send our previous maid-J away..it sort of got alittle messier in the week just before she was sent home in a plane.

..was afraid she won't get paid for her 1 week + of work in April.
my mum eventually gave her a full month's pay..

..chalked up 600mins (approx.$75) of talktime in March/early April..using a SIM card that was on loan to her.
very smart..use what you can't afford..

..kept mum about her usage & didn't once mention anything about paying for her bill for March.
the audacity!

..approached neighbours several times for biscuits (which she didn't finish..it's still in my fridge), claiming that there was nothing to eat at home.
LIAR. everyone could tell she put on significant weight after she joined us.

..bragged to other maids that her father was rich and could afford a maid at home.
UH-huh... so what is she doing here then..?

..distorted the truth about who paid for her ticket home.
it was my family, not her so called 'rich' dad who paid for her ticket

..borrowed S$300 from another maid from our block.
..tried in vain, to borrow more money from the same maid.
i wonder what sob story she used on the poor girl..

..failed to return the $300 and didn't bothered to inform her friend about payment.

..borrowed baggage from another maid..and took that home with her.

..attempted to drag home 35kg of stuff (that we gave away) home. 18kg of which was housed in a luggage, the rest was in plastic bags.
once again..smart. did she think they were gonna let her check her 5 plastic bags in?

not only did she not do a good job for my family. she caused so much trouble for others around her!
what i don't get is how she claims she's in financial trouble but her concept of money and spending betrays her. she took EVERYTHING for granted. either that or she's damn dishonest and will take advantage of any privilege she's given.
but whatever it is..she's a terrible liar.

even her agents are puzzled at her behaviour. according to the lady who is housing J temporarily, says she behaves like a brat..fussing over food like she's the princess of the house.

the last i heard..she's gone back home but will be back in another week.
the agency apparently found her a new employer where she has to care for a elderly but still very active woman.

if she thinks she can take advantage of the old lady coz of her age..she is so wrong.
i can only hope that she meets a family much stricter and harsher than mine.
teach her a lesson.
she needs it anyway.

3 times lucky..?

Ever since our long time maid left us last year, we’ve had our fair share of new maid drama (its pretty much well documented in the May 2007 entries)
In June last year, we got ourselves a second maid. The first impression wasn’t bad, she was definitely more proactive than the first one.

Unfortunately, that initial good impression did not last very long.
That good impression was ruined when we found out she used my sister’s laptop without her knowledge and even denied that fact when we questioned her. She could only give me a very guilty look when I told her we saw her browsing history and the sudden drop in the battery level.

On top of that, her concept of cleanliness is not the same as us. For example, the general cleaning cloth in the kitchen turned into a disgusting, smelly piece of fabric, under her care. She sometimes wouldn’t wash/clean table mats after meals if she thought there were no visible food stains. She also didn’t think there was any need to wipe furniture or walls, so you can imagine how unclean my kitchen walls were in the first couple of months.

The initiative she had in the beginning, fizzled out after like 2 months.
She was taught several recipes (some of which she forgot), given many cookbooks to help her out but she sort of fell into routine. She bought the same food each week and cooked the same few dishes. Only when someone specifically told her to buy a particular item, will she break out of her shopping/cooking routine, BUT only for that one week.
She can’t seem to remember or maybe she couldn’t be bothered to notice which dishes were well received and which weren’t.

It wasn’t like we overworked her or anything.
It was actually the opposite - She had free time EVERYDAY!

My mum eventually gave up a few weeks ago. under the suggestion of the agent, she picked out a new maid.

2 days ago, my mum told her she was going to be replaced and that she’ll have to go for an interview with a potential employer the next day. She got upset but she seemed to deal with it ok. the next day, I was given the task to drive her there.
Upon reaching, she was told off twice for her poor appearance – she didn’t tie up her hair and she had multiple earrings on her ears.

After a hour and a half, I could go pick her up. Apparently, the potential employer didn’t want her, said something about her black polished toe nails. Picky picky..

Anyway, the moment she came home, she started packing. That morning, before the interview, she already borrowed herself a luggage bag.
I was puzzled at her eagerness to pack and go.

What was more puzzling was what she did yesterday.

After dinner, she asked my mum to let her stay and cried about needing money for her son, who is apparently sick. By then, there was really nothing my mother could do. Paperwork had been processed, our new maid was already undergoing training here in Singapore. My mum told her it was really too late as she had given her so much chances to improve over a course of 9 months! Yes 9 months with us and she still hadn’t quite adapted herself to meet the level of housekeeping my mum was hoping for.

Oh well, its abit sad that things turned out like that.
I just hope she LEARNS from this experience and hopefully the agency can find her a new employer in 2 weeks or she’ll have to really pack up and go home.

Anyway, I really really hope the new maid won’t disappoint.
